| Freezing column or row headings
Now that we know how to enter and format values in our spreadsheet, let's take a look at a few features that will make our spreadsheet easier to use and more efficient. One of the problems you will run into when using large spreadsheets is that as you scroll off the page you can no longer see your column or row headers. OpenOffice makes it easy to solve this problem with the window freeze function. To freeze a row of your spreadsheet in place, just select the row where you want scrolling to begin, navigate to the window menu and select freeze.
Now, if you scroll the window, the column titles stay frozen in place.
To remove the frozen row header or columns, select the window menu and deselect the freeze option. The entire window will now scroll normally.
You can also use this technique to freeze columns. Select the column where you want scrolling to begin and select the window freeze command. All of the columns to the left will be frozen in place and the ones to the right will scroll horizontally. |
