Using the replace function

The replace feature will let you find occurrences of a value and optionally replace it with another value. Suppose you wanted to change the growth rate value from “rapid” to “fast”. Rather than changing each value by hand, you could use the replace feature to do it automatically.

Select the Find and replace option from the edit menu. Then type the word “fast” in the search for input box.

The next step is to type the word “rapid” into the replace with box.

Next, click the “replace all” button. Calc will find every occurrence of the word “rapid” and replace it with the word fast.

This was a simple find and replace operation, but there’s more you can do. Let’s go back to the find and replace screen and take a look at some of the other choices.

As you can see from the interface, Calc provides several options when using the find and replace command. You can perform a case sensitive search, search only within a selection, search backwards and several other options.

Clicking on the “more” button will let you specify a search direction, whether to look in values, formulas or notes and you can specify whether the operation should only be applied to the current worksheet or to all worksheets.
